Mokena IL

Mokena was first settled in the 1830s by German and Irish immigrants. The name "Mokena" comes from the Potawatomi language and means "mushroom place."

The Village of Mokena is served by Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210. The district has two high schools, Lincoln-Way East and Lincoln-Way West, which opened in 2001 and 2006 respectively. Each high school serves about half of Mokena's student population. private Catholic schools include St. Mary Catholic School, a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade school founded in 1956, and Providence Catholic High School.

Mokena is home to several parks, including the Main Park, which features a playground, pavilion, walking path, and basketball courts; the Community Park, which has baseball and softball fields, a sand volleyball court, and a walking path; and Wolf Lake Park, which offers fishing, boating, picnicking, and hiking opportunities. Mokena is also home to The CORE Golf Academy & Fitness Center.
